----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello and welcome to my site, I am Jonathan, I see myself as an animator who creates primarily 2D animations which tells a story and allows me to bring ideas to life.
What is your history in terms of being creative and what am I like now?
I have been creative all my life, starting off doing simple paper drawings, and now not only do I generate animated content, but I continue to do drawing based content (mainly digitally as you would see within my Instagram account) and I am an aspirational script writer as well, even planning to do my own series which I would like to show run and pitch to a big company. I am mostly into family friendly TV content, but I have been open to gaming as well, despite my main goals, I do have back up ideas too, I do like to be organised after all. As well as ding my own sketches and scripts, my journey as an animator started in 2017, after succeeding in my GCSE's, I went to a special college where they teach you industry based skills such as making animations using a variety of softwares as stated later, I was able to make animations which were okay starting points, but it was successful enough to get to the university I wanted to go to, where I have further extend those practical skills from college alongside learning other techniques; more in depth of my animation history can be seen when you read through my work within the other tab of this site. Before going to University, I won one college award and got nominated for to, winning 'Most professional student' and being nominated 'Student of the Year' and 'Most Creative Student'. When I am not doing assignment based work, I have made other animations in my own time, while also continue my interest in sketching and I do write my own scripts too, scripts for content I would like to pitch in the future.
What kind of animations do I like making the most?
I am into 2D content the most, but I am also experienced with 3D at a point where I would be open to have career choices surrounding 3D. I also like to create animation that merges 2D and 3D together, or even mix animation and live action as well (This you would see as you look at my work). I am also a narrative fan, I have studied storytelling for several years now, and I have been able to practise this within my scripts as well as some of my animated work too. I have been gaining more knowledge of storytelling as time goes on, after all, making more content like this can also strengthen the kind of content I want to pitch and show run in the future. While I do like making abstract based work as it can allow me more opportunities to perform new techniques and more, but I do like teaching my audience lessons, provide messages or at least showcase what crazy ideas my brain can come up with. To expand on this question, as mentioned, simplistic 2D animation like the classic Disney animations alongside modern cartoons like Ben 10 is the kind of style I do like a lot and can make my own. However, if there is one type of animation I like the least and an animation form I can never do, it would have to be Anime, it's an art form which is too complex and exaggerated for my liking, both for when trying to make it or when trying to watch it.
Are you open to networking?
If you want me to provide you feedback towards your work, or ask anything if you want to know what it's like to be an early animator, then feel free to do so, my social media and other details are at the bottom of the page. To add to that, I am open to anyone who wants to contact me in terms of providing an opportunity.
What softwares have I used?
I have mainly used After Effects, Photoshop and Maya, with minor experience within Premiere Pro and Illustrator. At the moment, my favourite is Photoshop, not only is digital frame by frame my favourite kind of animation approach, but with Photoshop, you can easily make content without the assistance of other softwares while also being able to generate assets within the software (in the 2D side of things anyway), for instance, Premier Pro requires video files. It has been both college and University that has helped me work with the softwares I have got to know so well to this day.
What are my plans after University?
As I write this, I am within my second year of university, after finishing University, I am taking one of those routes where I would like to gain as much experience as possible before getting to where I want to be, and I would like to reach a position where I have full creative control, getting my content made while also allowing me to work in a team that can help me achieve what I want while also sharing the credit too. As I write this, I am within my second year of university, I have applied for a voluntary based job, I also have an employer mentor who has been given me some industry-based advice and even University has been giving me a couple of opportunities too. Back to the previous topic, I would like to gain a decent amount of work experience, or even take part in minor jobs and briefs to help build up that experience. That is one out of many ways to get to where I want to be.
What kind of worker am I?
I am one of those workers which is on point, focus and passionate towards my work, whether it's linked with a brief or not. Since I was younger, I do spend as much time a possible progressing my work until it's done, this has been a trait I gained during my GCSE period, where I completed coursework and revised hard until it was all done, it's this kind of attitude that did lead to my success. This is a flaw of mine too, sometimes I work for too long, or I get things done too quickly, but once I reach a balance (as well as further balancing my routine for when doing current and future work) I still work hard to get to where I want to be. I can multitask too, listening to music while I am writing, watching videos while I am animating, and even progress work while rendering an animation. Despite working a lot, I still have fun in the meantime, it is satisfying once I look back on what I have made, whenever a piece of work is finished or still in the process of checking, every work I make always has something new within it, and that is what motivates me, alongside getting something done to allow as much time as possible.
What kind of professional experience have I had?
While I have never done work experience, nor ever been hired before, I still have some professional experience under my belt alongside the likes of college, university, self-promotion and other aspects like attempting to send my animation to a festival, taking place in a digital drawing competition as well as even doing some digital drawings to be printed for my sister to use for her own job. I do other experience too which is more significant such as alongside the previously mentioned employer mentoring experience, I have also done a practise pitch in front of the primary members of Wildseed Studios and thanks to university, me and others took part in a brief for the DRPG, where they require an animation based on a poem. While my experience is limited, I am hoping to get some more overtime unless I get lucky if this, my creativity, and determination is enough.
Conclusion:
If you want to check my other work via other platforms or even contact me, the details are below this page. Now you done have done your reading, you can feel free to have a look at my work and learn about it's history.
