A Teacher's Stumble:

Thankfully, this film didn't require an additional portfolio, but the brief however still wanted a higher-level product with higher level planning material and a first attempt at a higher-level brief. The brief was to go for an alternative kind of film, whether it's adapting a certain book, making an original documentary-based animation or a film which promotes an issue, I went for the third one, and an issue I wanted to present was to cover the anxiety of teachers, how it can be caused, what are the effects and how it can be diminished. It was an issue which the likes of news don’t cover much, so I thought this film could change that, not to mention making my animation visually interesting to grasp a younger audience to gain the attention of those who think teachers are lifeless goons while they are human just like us. With that inspiration, there were other ideas I had in mind which included: wanting to add 2D characters in a 3D which they belong to, try, and go for a far more limited colour scheme as well as try new things like animating 2D characters which can work with an animated 360 rendered frame or a panning camera. The narrative follows a new teacher as he spends a few days experiencing the struggles of being a teacher like struggling to gain attention from the children as well as being given too much work to do, which results in him gaining anxiety at a point where he required counselling and support from his head teacher.

Thanks to what was achieved in this film, this film will be a highly referenced film regarding what I can do in terms of production techniques as well as displaying other storytelling skills like the nightmare sequence which was a highlight for those who did watch this animation, and in future, I hope this film does help not only make younger audiences consider messing around in their classes again but it could make certain members of authority to consider what we can do for our teachers, how we can support them, because without changes, we will have more teachers with anxiety as well as an increase in resignations. To finish off, the film was mainly created using Maya for the settings and shots, and my characters were made using Photoshop by drawing on top of footage to create a more abstract kind of character, ones that are outline based, and After Effects did help with sound, music, followed by a collection of techniques like the rapid colour grading during the nightmare sequence, and this also took only four months to make. A good bit of advice for future animators, always go for an approach that is easy to handle, because after weeks of animating and planning, I still had weeks to improve the film afterwards thanks to feedback.
