Space and ships title sequence
The brief involved choosing a certain genre and making a title sequence for a made-up show, I've gone for Sci-fi, while also making a show which would appeal to a younger audience and aiming for a younger audience is what I normally go for as I would like to make content for younger audiences in the future, especially the content I would like to pitch and show run. For this title sequence however, I have aimed to demonstrate not only those traits but other aspects such as what this show might consist of such as flashy action and a wide range of alien life. I have also enhanced my main identity, which is mostly simplistic and 2D while also demonstrating a good use of colour. This assignment had to succeed in not only those areas, but to showcase enhanced After Effects skills and a good use of composting with the use of life action footage.
This is yet another animation that is made using After Effects with the assistance of illustrator to create the assets. Along with the basics of After Effects being used, I have also included a wide range of aspects such as a motion graphic-based explosion, a motion graphics-based background for the lightspeed sequence around the middle of the animation, along with glowing effects and text-based animations. The main stars however were the live action footage, which was the main innovation in terms of my development as an animator. Not only was masking used to cut the background of my own footage, but the green and purple glitches was actually an After Effects error as my phone footage and After Effects didn't get on, but it did result in a glitchy visual which suited the vibe of the sequence, which resulted in a mistake which resulted in something better. I have also implemented a mix of footage of northern lights within another area of footage as you would see before the title appears.
This animation continues to be one of my favourite animations for when ranking all my work, this is because I believe this is one of those animations which does showcase who I am when it comes to creating content, really showing off a simple and quirky nature which I have been developing since I was younger, being a fan of drawing characters and more. Even the characters within the light speed sequence were digital characters drawn using Microsoft Paint and applied to the animation, showing off my drawings which you can find within this site's Instagram account. This was the stage where I knew I was able to generate more professional work, and the many complex After Effects techniques such as the use of live action footage continue to be useful for when it came to content I made later on. Even the music is timed well with the visuals, which also starts off a method I like to apply, where visuals are in time with the music. Overall, this animation consists of a lot of techniques which are both complex yet showcase a grander set of improved skills while continuing to present those skills for future projects, and it's a good steppingstone for when making abstract material and forming an identity within a single art piece.
(There is more depth on how much time was put towards this project for when talking about the 3D sword model, this was because both the title sequence and the 3D model were two briefs alongside one another, both roughly had the same starting date and deadline date). To simplify this project, it took a week to get the main parts in such as the appliance and the animation of the assets alongside some After Effects based techniques. The second week however is where the live action footage was done followed by the masking process around all the pieces of footage, which is where the project got really lengthy, but thankfully, it was finish during the last week of the brief, where I had time to check everything followed by giving a day or two to allow the completion of the final render. Shortly after completing the pre-production for this project (which was a brief of i's own) I did allow myself a starting point towards this project, hence why this title sequence managed to be completed from how much was placed within the final composition.
