Boxing (Stop motion version):

Yet another boxing animation which is tied to my sports research project full of boxing animations, this is the only stop motion which is part of the project. I made this animation by using tracing paper, pencil, pen and a light board. I did an old-fashioned animation method where I place on piece of paper on top of another and try and make movements as I go from paper from paper, forming these boxer's movements. After using pencil to draw the main body of the box boxers (even with the help of aa light box too), I did also use pen to showcase their joints, for instance, showing off their elbows, knees and more. Like all my boxing animations, I researched various boxing methods (alongside using my own kickboxing experience to help form these animated movements) to help make each animation as grounded as possible, to represent boxing accurately but via my own ways, as well as the boxers, even the background included some minor pencil work, to add more to the visuals especially the background.

After animating each frame, this is where I scan each frame, and form an JPEG from each frame, and then apply all the frames into a sequence using After Effects, I would have also adjusted the speed of the sequence using After Effects too, this is to reach the correct length of the animation, which was ten seconds, just like the other boxing animations. As mentioned, I'm not the biggest fan of stop motion, but I did like the result of this animation, I like the smoothness of some of the movements, and I did also like what I did towards the background too. There are some instances of bad animation like a head turn that seemed unrealistic and the promotions of the characters seem to change throughout which is inconsistent, but as the first animation I've done using tracing paper and a light board, I believe it's a very good start despite the weaker areas of the sequence, even if this is another form of animation I won’t be focusing on as much as others.

This was the longest boxing animation to work on, each frame took more than a minute, I did have one of those situations where I did do some frames and then put them in a sequence to make sure it was the right length, and it wasn't just yet, meaning I had to do more frames of this animation order to reach the ten second mark. The amount of time it took to make this animation did deter the time from the other boxing animations, that I believe could have done with more time such as neatening the frames of the digital frame by frame animations, as well as making the keyframe based boxing animation somewhat neater. Regardless, the time needed for this animation (which I would say was nearly two weeks if thinking how long it took). I did do an approach where I progressed all the animations at once, so all of them had an equal amount of attention as each one was getting complete, this one however was the last to finish from how long it took. In order, it was the land and boxers being done first, then it was the appliance of the pen dots/lines followed by the sketchy background, only adding those extra details if there. It was the main boxers and land which took the most time, while the following additions took around half the time as far as I can remember.
