Boxing (2D frame by frame 2.0)
This is yet another boxing animation, one of the five which was submitted for a brief where I had to pick a sport and showcasing that sport in five different ways. And just to clarify, I have only included four of these boxing animations plus a lesson-based animation I was pleased with, the other boxing animation (which was mainly 3D) I didn't think were higher quality enough to showcase within this site, you can use YouTube to see it for yourself. With this animation however, despite this one being another 2D digital frame by frame one, it is more abstract compared to the other digital frame by frame boxing animation. The difference between this digital boxing animation and the other boxing animation is that the other one was more grounded, forming proper proportion-based boxers, compared to the boxers in this animation who are more abstract, such as having no facial features, and not having arms either. After all, animation is where you can create anything, such as creating boxers who have the proportions of the Wii’s miis as I intended.
Also like the other boxing animation, this one too was also made by using Photoshop alone, at a stage where this digital frame by frame method was new yet very gripping for me. While the other photoshop animation focuses on animating fully bodied characters and with some assisting motion graphics, this orange animation focuses on creating motion graphics only, generating abstract people, gloves and more. This animation I do like as well, I don't normally create abstract work as evident by what you have seen so far, but it was animations like this that help me become more confident towards making abstract work. I do like the blend of orange alongside blue and red, and I like the brutal side of the animation too, such as the blood effects which I think are successful and would like to do more of foe when it comes to future content that's more mature (and mature content I haven't done for quite some time since then).
But as I am more of a fan of creating family friendly content, it would be more consistent of me to generate family friendly work which has slightly mature elements as shown in Disney films; on top of that, my animations (and future work) have been more for an older children audience as opposed to toddlers, even then, the use of blood I would avoid unless I am making a brief based project which is meant to be for a much older audience.
This was one of the shorter animations to make out of the collection of boxing animations that were made, this one took under a week, it did get revisited to form an animation which mixed this style of 2D and then apply it onto 3D boxers (which you'll see within my YouTube account) but I personally wasn't a fan of this animation (hence why it's not featured in this site) but it was an experimental animation that did gain positive feedback, even if it does seem inferior, and me not being a fan of it. When drawing on top of 3D footage of 3D boxers using this style off 2D, that took more than a week, showing that it did take longer to run on 3D reference footage than animating from scratch.
