Atar vs Zionthor

Before making work, which enhances the combination of 2D and 3D, I did make this animation to not only find some footing if I were to go in this direction, but it was a change to animate characters which are made up of only 3D parented features, but also messing around with my own fictional characters. Atar is the red figure with the sword, and Zionthor is the purple armoured figure with the obscure blunt weapon, the premise is them two fighting, using their weapons, fist and other powers, it was a chance to see if I can not only do new innovations like the mix of 2D and 3D and animated characters with parented featured but to see if I can form a good fight scene, with convincing moves, sound design and camera work.

Maya was used to form the assets and the environment, Photoshop was used to apply the facial features and the powers of the characters, alongside putting all the Maya rendered images into a sequence. Finally, Premier Pro was used to apply the music and various sound design such as hitting sounds and sounds for the powers both characters have. I normally work with a main software with only another software to assist, but this is the first animation I've made where multiple softwares were just as important as one another.

Overall, this animation I am very impressed with, despite an animation made without obeying a brief and an animation many would argue might have been too short, I believe I have succeeded in my goals for this particular animation, this has made me want to apply subtle elements of 2D initiative 3D settings for future animations depending on what other work I will make on my own or what future briefs would be like. I've have built up more skills which can allow me to be more comfortable with other animation methods, further preparing myself while further enhancing my skills. After making this animation, I would be more comfortable to create more fight scenes, as well as continuing to use the method of animating parented based 3D characters, which I prefer compared to parented 2D assets. I would agree that this animation is a tad short, and some of the cuts might have been a bit too quick or not at the right angle, but other than that, it has encouraged me to make more none brief based material like this, it can even showcase what my future work would be like, such as pitching and show running my own content which is animated and full of action like this animation here.

This was one of those animations I did make after the first year of university was done, while the softwares remained before the free access to them was done. As mentioned, I wanted to make an animation which merged the use of Maya and Photoshop, and the animation itself took less than a week, it was a lengthy process to create the characters and then apply all the keyframes to their joints while making sure they are flowing consistently. The rendering didn't take that long either, and as the Photoshop areas only included the facial features and the power motion graphics this made the Photoshop segment only require a day, the rendering of both the Maya files and the overall render had a day each, the Maya modelling and animating however did take multiple days. I would have extended the fight scene if it wasn't for the amount of time I had left, I did want to create a finalised fight scene, but it got a point here the rendering and Photoshop features were needed while the time was around, and this was luckily all completed before I lost access to the Adobe softwares.
